Body Length and Development Stages Relationship of Female Namalycastis rhodochorde


The body length is the one characters of body size which can be used not only as an indicator to determine the stages of development but also the time of maturation and reproduction. The purpose of our study was to estimated the relationship between body length and stages development of female Nypa Palm worm. Randomized samples were taken from October 2011 to July 2012 in Kapuas Estuary, West Kalimantan. Selected individuals who have completed body segment used for measurement. We divide into four stages of development i.e  juvenile, immature, sub-mature and mature based on mean of oocytes diameter (n=30 from each specimens). A regression analysis (Y=axb) was used to determine the relationship between body length and stages of development. Total of 140 specimens were found with individual body length ranged from 19.7 to 158.9cm and oocytes diameter ranged from, 28 to 150mm.  According to this study, body length of female N. rhodochorde was low correlated (37.4%) with developmental stages.
